The Metropolitan Global is a Citizens' Jury
It is a simple system that let's ordinary people take responsibility for the state of the world, together.
Most if us see problems in our community and feel powerless to do anything useful about them. We complain, wait for institutions to act, and too often, nothing changes. This project exists to change that habit.
How it works
We run two voting cycles every month.
1st Cycle - The What
Members propose and discuss real issues. Then everyone votes on which problem we will focus on, by the 15th of every month.
2nd Cycle - The How
Once the issue is chosen, we vote on the most practical way to help with the resources we have.
The winning plan receives support from the Public Trust - the pooled contributions of members. We then carry out the decision and publish the result so anyone can see what was done.
No hidden process. No political party. Just a clear sequence: propose, discuss, vote, act, show the result.
The Rules (Bill of Responsibilities)
1. Members pay a dollar a month into "The Public Trust."
2. Members particiapte by voting twice a month in the Citizen's Jury.
3. Everyone's invited.
4. Members are encouraged to bring two people into the community.
5. We must try and get along. And if you can't, then be civil.
6. No trolling on the discussion forum. We are here to debate ideas and solve problems.
7. We are here to solve problems, not people. We must always see the individual as a value in themselves instead of a means to an end.
8. We can't do anything illegal, immoral or "uncool." All actions we take must be clearly positive.
9. The Metropolitan Global must be as transparent as is reasobale and possible.
10. All prffits made after operating expenses will go into the Community Chest, which will be used in tandem with the Public Trust.
These rules protect the project from the usual failure modes: personal attacks, free-riding, opacity, and endless argumant without action.
How to take part on the site
a) Become a member - Create an account
b) Discussion Forum - Read exisiting ideas, like the ones you support or start a new discussion of your own
c) The Vote - When a cycle is open, cast your vote
d) Past Verdicts - Watch what previous cycels have produced
e) Bring two people - The growth of the jury depends on members inviting others.
That is the entire system.
Why this exists
We do not claim this will solve every problem.
We do claim that continuing to wait for someone else has not worked.
When regular people deliberate honestly, decide together, and then act in unison, responsibility becomes possible again. That is the experiment. It starts local, stays transparent, and is designed to grow one member at a time.
If that makes sense to you, the next step is simple:
Join.
Vote twice a month.
And bring two people who want to change the world with you.
God Bless.
