Our Citizen's Jury
Here at The Metropolitan Global, we view the whole world as one community and everyone in it as our neighbors. We are here to love our neighbors. In order to achieve this goal, we needed a place where everyone could gather to make their voices heard and participate in a process to affect social change. To do this, we tweaked a system called, “The Citizen’s Jury,” and used its principles to create a monthly call to action for our members.
This is how it works: A standard citizens jury selects a random group of jurors from the populace. They are tasked with coming up with a solution to a problem by being briefed with all pertinent information about the subject. The jurors come to a consensus on what the best solution would be and publish their results in a report used as a guide for local community leaders to follow. Simple enough, right?
Our system is a little different. Instead of a selected group, ours is open to everyone who wants to participate. Our members pay a dollar a month into a shared fund called “The Public Trust.” Throughout each month, in two week voting cycles, our community debates and decides on what cause to support or issue to tackle and finishes off the month with a vote on how best to spend the money towards our common goal.
Whatever idea garnishes the most votes wins, and we carry out and record what the people elected to do with the funds, then share the results with the world.
Our neighbors need help, both at home and abroad. We must figure something out, and fast. We are being led into oblivion, but it doesn’t have to be that way. We, as a global society, need a course correction, not just to avert one impending disaster, but all impending disasters.
Don’t worry, we’re humans, surviving is what we do!
But first we need to find a way to work together. We need common ground where regular people are safe to work out our problems out together. That’s why we call our organization The Metropolitan Global. A shining city on a hill, a community for everyone, a home for the world. We hope you’ll join us, and give peace a chance.
