January's First Cycle Discussion
The Metropolitan Global's first community vote of 2026 has wrapped up, highlighting heartfelt support for the Telstar High School Athletic Boosters in Bethel, Maine.
There were many contenders for our first vote, some of them being the Hope Association, Supporting at-risk youths at New Beginnings, or mentoring via Big Brothers/Big Sisters. There was also Meals on Wheels, Animal Shelters, helping foster children at a Family for ME, along with Maine Adaptive, St Jude's, with another nomination for finding a way to help our Veterans.
After the vote went through, it was decided that we would support Telstar for our inaugral monthly service project.
Telstar High School Athletic Boosters-an organziation run by parents and community members that funds athletics, fan engagement and even infrastructure improvements like expanding the snack shack and adding dugouts at school fields.
Community members rallied around the cause through discussions and idea-sharing on the platform. Key proposals emerged to provide meaningful, local impact:
1) Hosting a "Noche" event at Margarita's restaurant, which would direct a portion of diners proceeds to the boosters.
2) Exploring a partnership with Mac's Grill in Auburn, where they would odnate food to an event the Boosters would host.
3) Supplying needed items like bottled water for the concession stand at games, with simple collection and delivery.
4) Volunteering to staff the concession stand for a night, though concerns were noted about filming or media coverage during shifts.
These ideas reflect a focus on practical, community driven fundraising that aligns with the boosters' ongoinng efforts-such as recent construction projects and events like Coaches vs. Cancer games-to support student athletes in the SAD 44 district.
The vote underscores Metropolitan Global's commitment to active citizenship, turning personal stories into collective action for local causes. While the boosters continue seeking volunteers and support for concessions annd facilities, this initiative shows how small, collaborative efforts can make a difference.
Stay tuned for more updates on upcoming votes and hownthse ideas might evolve into real events! For more on Telstar Boosters, check local school channels or their community groups.
